![]() My Original Design for Ariel |
This was my first project of 3rd year at NTU. The concept for the designs held ancient Japanese mythology and folklore at its center and this costume portrays Ariel when he is sent away by Prospero to become a water nymph, therefore I felt it fitting for him to become a dragon. To create the Hanten and Hakama, I used traditional Japanese patterns made from hand dyed and embellished fabric. The cape consists of roughly 1000 lazer cut and hand embellished scales, sewn onto a 4m wide and 6 1/2 foot long dupion blend base. A body harness hidden beneath the garments bears the weight of the cape.
